Follow-up story for the 2024 Kiwanis Thanksgiving Community Dinner
This was a banner year for the Kiwanis Community Thanksgiving Dinner, according to Kiwanis Secretary Dave Nick who kept careful watch on the numbers for the meals delivered and served out of the KC Hall on Nov. 28, 2024.
According to Nick’s records, in all they served over 600 meals which included 283 deliveries, 141 take out meals and 133 dine in meals for 557. Plus there were 27 non-member volunteers who helped out and 22 Kiwanis Club members, too, who volunteered. Many of those volunteers also ate a meal, bringing the numbers up to 606. That has got to be a record!
It was touch and go for a while, admitted Nick, because this year so many more drop ins added anxiety for the club members, “Would there be enough food for everyone?”
With more than 100 over last year’s count, they still managed to feed everyone without running out of food. “We were maybe a little more cautious with the portion size this year, as we saw more and more people dropping in who hadn’t called ahead, but it did turn out okay.”
Christmas Day 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the KC Hall
The Kiwanis Club is already preparing to do it all again for Christmas Day – December 25 serving from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with the to-be-delivered meals packed starting at 9:30 a.m. and deliveries starting at 10 a.m.
The Christmas meal will consist of baked ham, potatoes, veggies, roll and pie. If you are interested in a home-delivered meal or two, or stopping in to pick up four or five meals to go or dining at the KC Hall they ask that you give them a call and let them know so they can plan for the amount of food they prepare and purchase. Please call ahead before Monday, Dec. 23 and let us know if you plan to eat. Call Dave at 351-7285. This goes for all volunteers, too. Thank you, volunteers, in advance, for helping with this project!
