Bryce Crosby, local Veterans Services Officer for Ramsey and other neighboring counties and retired ND National Guard, was honored last week by his family at a surprise event held at the Lake Region Heritage Center.

Crosby is getting well-known for other things in the community, as well, he is credited with almost single-handedly reviving the local Boy Scout program AND he has one of the most authentic-looking costumes (and beard) for a very special visitor most homes only see one day each year. You know who that might be. He drives a custom-made sleigh pulled by a number of caribou-like antlered creatures. You get it, right? It’s another way this man gives back to his community.

Crosby’s sister Carol set this whole thing up, telling wood carver James McCain about her amazing brother. McCain who is famous for his Bellamy-style carved eagles usually makes ones that are huge, 3 foot by 4 foot, covered in high quality actual gold leaf.

After learning about how Crosby has served the National Guard, local veterans, this community and the Boy Scouts, he decided to make a one-of-a-kind smaller version of his famous carving so it could be presented to Crosby. It took about a year to complete, but a family wedding brought Crosby’s family together last week for the presentation, shown here.
