The 2024 Market in the Park began Saturday, July 13 in Roosevelt Park, Devils Lake, and will run each Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12 Noon through October 12 (or the first big snowfall – whichever comes first!).
Also known as The Farmer’s Market it is located in the large picnic shelter in the west end of Roosevelt Park.
What will you find at the Market in the Park?
Every Saturday is a little different bringing garden produce, home canned fruits and jellies, baked goods, sewn and crafted items, artwork and much, much more! Plus you will meet your friends and neighbors as they shop for home-grown produce, gift items or home baked goods.
Editor’s picks:
The produce is outstanding; peppers, cucumbers, potatoes, peas, carrots and so on. I recommend the Miller booth – usually on the east side of the shelter – that features home made lefse – that Norwegian specialty that people of all nationalities can enjoy, plus other sweets, like scotcheroos. Come early, though, because they sell out quickly!
Stop by Mo’s booth for jams, jellies and an assortment of other items.
The folks from the Little Red Schoolhouse in Webster are there most weekends, too. Kristin Schlenske and her family are owners of this unique home and place of business, the 1905 Historic Webster School. As baker she provides unique items, such as sourdough bread, fruit-filled hand pies, cookies and much more!
Also, the people from New Rockford who bring fresh picked juneberries, frozen in gallon bags, are usually at the Farmer’s Market, too. I keep them frozen and use them in my oatmeal at breakfast, with other fruit for salads or in muffins and pancakes.
Sometimes there’s someone making bicuits and gravy for shoppers, or Indian tacos, or frying sausage samples. You just never know what you’ll find at the Market in the Park!
