Curt Jacobson from Leevers Foods announced last week that the 2023 Stuff-A-Truck holiday food drive for the Hope Center has begun. All eight of the Leevers Family Foods stores around the country are participating in Stuff-A-Truck to benefit their own communities. The Stuff-A-Truck campaign started Oct. 30 and will end Nov. 12 – just in time for the holidays!

This is the 21 year of the food drive that more and more local individuals and families have come to depend upon. Jacobson recently visited with Vee Jeffrey, manager of the Devils Lake Hope Center, who told him that presently there are 399 households served by the Hope Center in this community. That’s the highest number they have ever served and it looks to stay about the same or even go higher as the holidays draw near.

Jeffrey reported that the local food pantry has already gotten busy and it is already difficult to keep the shelves filled, so she is looking forward to Stuff-A-Truck helping them fill the shelves and meet local peoples’ needs.

This year, as they have in the past, Central Middle School is joining Stuff-A-Truck to help fill the shelves. For the middle school students it’s a friendly competition among classrooms with the “winners” receiving prizes like a pizza party for the whole class, for example. The real winners, however, will be the families and individuals who depend on the Hope Center for their holidays just like they do at other times of the year.

For all of us, Stuff-A-Truck is an opportunity to help others and to experience the joy of giving.

There are three ways you can give to this worthy cause.

First, you can donate cash. The next time, or how about every time you shop for groceries at Leevers Foods you can ask the person at the check out to include in your total a cash donation to Stuff-A-Truck. They will give you a white 4×5.5 inch slip of paper for you to list your cash donation and your name on it. Those will be posted in Leevers near the check out lanes.

Second, as you are nearing the check out lanes at Leevers, there is a stand containing pre-bagged items totaling $15. You can grab one of those and add to your own grocery cart and it goes in the drop box bin near the front door as you head out of the store.

Third, as you do your shopping in Leevers you will notice many items on the shelves that are marked with a 3.5×4.5 inch orange Stuff-A-Truck sign indicating a suggested item that the Hope Center has listed as items they need for their shelves. Then, you can drop those items – singly or a whole case of them, if you wish – in the drop box bin near the store’s front door.

Last year, in 2022 Stuff-A-Truck provided 1,180 lbs. of items for the Hope Center and $1,203 in cash.

Needed at the Hope Center: Cereals, pasta, canned veggies, canned soups, canned meat (like tuna or chicken), dry beans, macaroni and cheese boxed dinners. If you give pasta, give the sauce to go with the pasta – like an alfredo sauce or tomato based marinara sauce, for example. Other items they need are personal care items like tooth brushes, deoderant, bar soap, toilet paper, laundry soap, shampoos and conditioner.

Let’s make the 2023 Stuff-A-Truck holiday drive for the Hope Center the best one ever! For more information look for details at www.leeversfoods.com, click on their Facebook page or call 701-662-4945 with your questions.
