Tonight will be the final Arts in the Park concert for summer 2023 and it sounds like it’s going to be a good one with the “Silver Lake Freak Show” band playing at 7 p.m. on the Galleger Elks Band Shell stage in Roosevelt Park.

Who are the Silver Lake Freak Show band members? According to Lisa Crosby, President of the Devils Lake Kiwanis Club and director of the Lake Region Heritage Center Museum they are Daniel Herman, Jared Schlenker, Reid Haagenson and Eric Haagenson. All local men.

Don’t let the name of the group throw you, they play country, rock, easy listening – a nice variety of music.

Friendly competition

The Arts in the Park has featured three concerts sponsored by the Rotary Club, three sponsored by the Lions Club and this will be the fourth concert sponsored by the Kiwanis Club. Unique to this summer the three clubs have been locked in a competition to provide donations for the Hope Center, inspired by a visiting member of the Lions Club from Fargo, Crystal Dueker. All summer audience members have been bringing their donations of unperishable food items and personal care products to give to the individuals and families the Hope Center serves in Ramsey County.

Tonight’s concert will be the final time this summer to donate to this “friendly competition.” Of course, the real winners of the competition are the many people in need in our community who benefit from the Hope Center and all it offers.
