Devils Lake High School Principal, Ryan Hanson, welcomed the crowd to the 130th commencement program at DLHS on Sunday afternoon, May 28, in the Sports Center gymnasium.

Eighty four young men and women waited patiently to receive their diplomas as the festivities were underway.

The JROTC Color Guard presented the colors as the orchestra performed the National Anthem directed by Conductor Jeremiah Johnson and the Flag Song presented by the Cuthead Sioux drum group.

Remarks were presented by Student Council President Cassandra Christensen, Senior Class President Hallie Fritel, and Senior Speakers Madyn Parker and Shayla Davis.

Hanson explained the cords many of the students wore to recognize highest distinction, grade point averages of 3.95 to 4 .0 double gold cords; single gold cord distinction, 3.5 – 3.949 GPA; single purple/orange cord – Vitalant donating blood; single white cord – 100 volunteer hours; double red/white cords – 200 volunteer hours and triple red/white/black cords – 300 volunteer hours.

Then it was the “presentation of the Class of 2023” with Hanson directing traffic to the stage, Jessica Fuchs calling each name, President of the Board of Education Corey Meyer awarding the diplomas and Superintendent Matt Bakke moving the mortar board tassles.
