Members of the SkillsUSA student organization at the Lake Area Career & Technology Center in Devils Lake recently competed at the 49th annual SkillsUSA State Leadership and Skills Conference held in Wahpeton, ND.
Fourteen students from the LACTC competed in 8 different events and the Devils Lake chapter brought home 10 medals – 3 Gold, 6 Silver, and 1 Bronze.
The bronze medal was awarded to Keelie McCloud in the Medical Terminology contest and Hallie Fritel earned the silver medal in the same event. The Quiz Bowl team, consisting of team members Paris Cavanaugh, Jadyn Frelich, Brady Bommersbach, Owen Nelson, and Carmen Lundquist, also won a silver medal.
The 3 gold medals went to Hallie Fritel in Technical Related Math, Quin Haugland in Nurse Assisting, and Mattyson Ertelt for Job Interview which is Mattyson’s second gold medal in a row in this event!
Other notable finishes were 4th place ties in Medical Terminology for Paris Cavanaugh and Addison Kraft, and a 4th place finish for Brynn Lacina in Extemporaneous Speaking.
The gold medal winners are now eligible to compete at the National SkillsUSA Conference held June 19-24, 2023 in Atlanta, Georgia. The students, along with their advisor, Marla Luehring, will be fundraising to help defray the cost of the upcoming trip. Marla is very proud of ALL of the students’ accomplishments and their wonderful representation of Devils Lake at the State Conference.
