Enjoy French Toast, Sausage and helping Kiwanis help kids
The mission of Kiwanis states, “”Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers didicated to improving the world one child and one community at a time.”
With that in mind the Devils Lake Kiwanis Club will be presenting their Number One fundraising event next week – the French Toast and Sausage Feed at the KC Hall on April 27 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and at 4:30 to 7 p.m.
Tickets are available NOW from any Kiwanis Member. Adults pay $12, children 4 – 12 years old are $5 but a ticket for an entire family: Mom, Dad and children is capped at $30 – no matter how many kids there are!! (please, only immediate family members) The larger the family, the more you save! For a family of Mom and Dad plus one child – you should probably get separate tickets, that would be $29. But if there are two, three, four or more children in your family you still only pay $30 maximum! What a deal!
It’s the money made on this fundraiser that help the Kiwanis Club provide scholarships and or grants for youth to be able to participate in several endeavors – like sponsoring a couple of youngsters who want to particpate in Lure ‘em For Life – where kids get to go to a camp and do fishing with real (professional and experienced) fishermen on Devils Lake, or sponsoring a young musician to attend the International Music Camp at the Peace Gardens. Plus Kiwanis is co-sponsor of the Honor Student Luncheon May 2, this year, 11:30 a.m. at the LRSC dining room. What is raised during this fundraiser also helps fund the July 4 Free Family Picnic at Roosevelt Park after the Independence Day parade.
Through the years, Kiwanis has provided hundreds of individuals and families with a wonderful Thanksgiving Dinner (on Thanksgiving) and Christmas Dinner (on Christmas Day), both in person dining and home delivered. Both of these are in part funded through the proceeds of the French Toast and Sausage Feed, as well.
Pete Hager has been a member of Kiwanis for 30 years. He has been chairman of the French Toast and Sausage Feed fundraiser for 15 years and says this might be his last year doing all of this organizing and promotion for the fundraiser, so he wants to “go out with a bang!” and make this year’s the best one ever! Let’s help Pete do just that!
He also added that he has no intention of leaving the Kiwanis Club itself, but he said after 15 years, it is time for someone younger to take on the French Toast and Sausage fundraiser organization and promotion, so we’ll have to keep our eyes open for someone who might fit that role who, I’m sure, will benefit greatly from Pete’s help.
