Devils Lake's Abby Johnson is fouled by Fargo North's Arden Faulkner on a drive to the basket in the first half of a NDHSAA girls basketball game Thursday, Feb. 13, 2020 in Devils Lake.

After the previous three home games had Devils Lake girls basketball team fighting back to get the win, Thursday's game against visiting Fargo North was back to normal business — doling out wipeouts.

Abby Johnson scored 10 of her game high 14 points in the first half, then the bench took over from there as the No. 1 Firebirds dismantled the Spartans 65-23 in a make up from the January 17th postponement due to the winter storm that hit the area.

Rachel Dahlen came off the bench to score 10 points, Karli Krogfoss scored nine points and Jailyn Martinson scored six points as the Firebirds turned a two point game with 13:53 remaining in the first half into a no-contest by the time the horn sounded to end the first 18 minutes.

Spartans Grace Miller completed a 3-point play that made the score 7-5. It was the Spartans first made field goal of the game. Johnson scored consecutive baskets, followed by Martinson who made back-to-back shots during a 20-2 Firebirds (17-0, 16-0 Eastern Dakota Conference) run.

The Firebirds led 40-12 at halftime.

"I thought we did a good job coming out, ready to go, getting out and attacking. I thought we were ready to play tonight," said Firebirds head coach Justin Klein.

Jennie Sem and Miller each finished the game with six points to lead the Spartans who fell to 1-15 overall and 1-14 in the EDC.
