With five teams finishing the Eastern Dakota Conference season with 10-10 league records, one of those teams would not make the eight-team East Region baseball Tournament.

After drawing the short end of the stick last year in a tiebreaker, Devils Lake made its way into the tournament as the No. 8 team.

Fargo South was left out of the tournament along with Wahpeton (4-16) and Valley City (0-20).

The Firebirds play top-seeded West Fargo at 11 a.m. Thursday in Fargo.

The winner/loser of the game faces the winner/loser of No. 4 Grand Forks Red River and No. 5 West Fargo Sheyenne.

DL split this season with the Packers in its last home doubleheader, losing 8-1 before winning 6-5.

The top four teams in the East Region Tournament advance to state.

The Journal will have a more in-depth tournament preview later this week.
