The Devils Lake baseball team struggled to string together hits Friday in 10-0 and 16-6 losses to Fargo Davies.

The Firebirds had just five hits in the Game 1 loss that went five innings.

After falling behind 10-0 again in the nightcap, the Firebirds heated up to score five runs in the third inning.

Landyn Swenson picked up an RBI single. Ryan Haahr then sent Jake Mertens and Swenson home with a bases-loaded single. Haahr (right) led DL with three hits in Game 2. Cody Wren’s single scored Noah Widmer and Joey Hornstein finished the rally with a single that scored Haahr.

Davies went on to score six runs in the top of the sixth inning to seal the game.

The Firebirds are now 4-7 overall and 2-6 in the Eastern Dakota Conference. They host Grand Forks Red River at 5 and 7 p.m. Tuesday.
