Lake Region State College sophomore Kelsey Schlenk finished the first round of the NJCAA National Golf Tournament tied for 75th with a first round score of 97 at the LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Schlenk finished first among Region 13 golfers, the region LRSC competes in.

“She played really well yesterday but two holes,” assistant coach Danny Mertens said. “Her short game and putting were her best. Today we look to improve on our second shot. If she does that her score will improve. Her goal coming in was to play in the 90s constantly and shoot for the 80s. So far she has done that.”

Schlenk tees off at 7:20 a.m. today. Updates can be found on Twitter by following @LRSCroyals and @LRSCgolf.
