The Devils Lake girls and boys cross country teams began their seasons Saturday in Jamestown. With two runners on both teams competing, the girls took ninth place out of 14 teams and the boys finished last of 16 teams.

On the girls side, the Firebird runners finished high, despite just having two runners. Ramsey Brown finished 11th out of 51 runners with a time of 17 minutes, 18 seconds. Places seventh through 11th all finished within eight seconds of each other for a tight race.

Mattea Vetsch wasn’t too far behind that pack, finishing 15th with a time of 17 minutes, 33 seconds.

The girls’ 185 team points was one point behind eighth place Sargeant Central-Lidgerwood. Jamestown won the meet with 78 points.

The Firebird boys were edged by Hebron and Garrison and took last place as a team with 355 points.

Max Schuh ran the course in 23 minutes, 6 seconds, good for 65th place. James Kraft took 71st place, running a time of 26 minutes, 21 seconds.

New Town won the boys meet, finishing with 26 team points.

The Firebirds are back in action Thursday at Northwood.
