The Lake Region State College womens basketball team is simple: improve every time it hits the court.

“We talk about it every single day,” Danny Mertens, Royal first-head coach, told the Journal. “Our goal is to get better every practice and every game.”

The Royals continue to get better and show that they are a team to watch. On Wednesday, the squad ran away with an 82-34 victory over Trinity Bible College.

After a fairly competitve opening 10 minutes of play, the Royals turned the heat up on defense and translated steals and stops into points.

Lake Region State College held a 45-19 lead at the half and kept it going into the second half.

The Royals used 34-of-72 shooting, 47 percent, to help earn the 82-34 win.

Kennedy Henningsgard had 20 points while Becca Eberle had 16. Taylor Swanson had 11 points inlcuding a trio of threes.

Mertens was extremely pleased with the performance especially considering the adversity the Royals faced.

“More than half of our team has been sick this week. But, they fought through it,” he said. “We keep getting better."
