West Fargo shuts out Devils Lake squad

The West Fargo football team showed why it is one of the top squads in the state Saturday evening at home. The Packers used a powerful rushing attack to walk away with a 41-0 victory over Devils Lake.
“West Fargo up to this point in our season has the best defense that we've seen. They are assignment sharp, they get to the ball in a hurry as a unit, and they tackle very well,” Devils Lake head coach Jay Schneider complimented. They defended us extremely well and we gave them some short fields with turnovers or poor punts.”
Offensively, Devils Lake was led by Jacob Mertens who passed for 33 yards. Bradley Davidson finished with 19 yards on the ground on four carries.
Defensively, Ryan Kraft led the way with six tackles.
“Our defense was put into some tough spots all night but I thought they played hard all night,” Schneider pointed out. “The Packers are a very good football team.”
The Firebirds, who drop to 2-5 on the season, are looking to end their season on a high note in their last game against West Fargo Sheyenne.
“We will need to run and pass the ball equally on offense to be successful and win in the trenches, win the turnover battle, and win the field position game and also tackle much better than we did against West Fargo last week,” he said.
