The Devils Lake Volleyball team is looking to get back on the winning track Tuesday (tonight) against Grand Forks Central.

The teams square off at 7 p.m. at the Devils Lake Sports Center. Earlier in the year, the Firebirds defeated the Knights in three sets.

Over the weekend, Devils Lake competed at a tournament in Fargo. The tourney got off to a tough start Friday as the Firebirds fell to Bismarck Century, 11-25 and 12-25, Kindred, 19-25 and 13-25, and West Fargo Sheyenne, 12-25 and 20-25.

“Friday was rough. Our passing and communication struggled,” head coach Lisa Zimmerman stated.

Saturday was a much better day for the Firebirds as the team split. Devils Lake beat St. Marys (24-26 and 25-14, 15-9) and Grand Forks Central (25-17 and 25-16). The team fell to Valley City (24-26 and 26-28) and Oak Grove (19-25 and 19-25) in tight matches.

“Saturday was a fresh start and they came to play. Saturday our passing game was much better and they served really well,” she said.

Mikayla Wallace led the way with 29 kills, 41 digs, five blocks and 11 aces. Morgan Karlstad finished with 24 kills, six blocks and five aces. Alexa Gathman 57 digs and 11 aces. Jenna Windjue added 61 assists.

“The girls were thrown into some situations they weren't used to due to injuries and absences but they handled it well. I'm proud of the way the fought through these unfamiliar rotations and were able to pull out some wins,” the coach added.
