At halftime, North Star held a 24-8 lead over Region 2 foe Benson County on the road Friday evening. As the final horn sounded in Leeds, the Bearcats walked away with a 24-8 victory over the Wildcats.

After an eventful first half, neither team got on the scoreboard in the final two quarters of the contest.

Early on, the home Wildcats looked to have all the momentum. After forcing an early turnover, the Benson County offense went to work. Zachery Frericks and Aidan Ritterman ran for first downs to get the squad going.

Then a personal foul called against North Star set up Benson County in the red zone. The Wildcats then found paydirt as Ritterman ran 13 yards to give his team six points. The senior quarterback found the end zone again with a PAT to give the home squad an 8-0 advantage.

From there, however, it was all Bearcats as the squad went to the air offensively. After hooking up with receivers Johnny Heisler and Christian Kvilvang for first downs, quarterback Jayden Komrosky then connected with Alex Weston for an 18-yard touchdown pass. The duo again found each other for the PAT to tie the game up at eight.

Early in the second quarter, the Bearcats put together another scoring drive. After a first down run by Riley Thomas, North Star scored as Komrosky sprinted in the end zone on a two-yard run. A Komrosky pass to Thomas made the score 16-8 in favor of the visitors.

The game’s scoring closed on North Star’s next drive set up by a Kvilvang interception. Komrosky found Weston from three yards out. A Heisler catch for the PAT gave the Bearcats a 24-8 advantage going into the half.
