WEST FARGO, N.D. — This time there would be no tie. West Fargo made sure of that.

The Packers scored three power play goals in the second period and added another goal to overcome a 2-0 deficit and went on to defeat Devils Lake in high school boys hockey.

The loss drops the Firebirds to 4-3-3 in the Eastern Dakota Conference and 9-3-3 on the season.

“We came out with a lot of intensity in the opening period,” Devils Lake coach David Zimmerman said.

Tanner Hoffmeyer collected both goals for Devils Lake in the first period as the Firebirds started strong. Beau Eriksson’s goal late in the second period tied the game 3-3, but West Fargo’s third power play goal proved to be the difference maker as the Packers took a 4-3 lead at the second intermission and added a pair of goals in the final period to post the win.

“We didn’t do anything special in the second period ... and the penalties took the wind out of us,” Zimmerman added. “We played much better in the third compared to the second and that seems to be a recurring them for us. We are running out of time and the team needs to figure out where they want to go.”

Sawyer Diseth collected 34 saves in goal for Devils Lake.

Devils Lake returns to the ice on Thursday when the

Firebirds return to Fargo to take on Fargo Davies.

“We need the win to get back on track for a good seed at the EDC tournament,” Zimmerman said.
