No. 1 North Star continues to roll
MUNICH, N.D. — The wins keep piling up for the top team in North Dakota.
North Star used a 26-14 run in the second quarter to break away from Munich-Starkweather on its way to a convincing 65-46 win over the Magic Storm on Thursday in Munich.
The two teams combined for just 16 points in the first period of play as the Bearcats built a narrow 10-6 advantage after the first eight minutes.
But the next quarter belonged to North Star ... and the rest of the game.
After using that 12-point bulge in the second period to build a 36-20 win at halftime, the Bearcats and Magic Storm played on even terms. North Star outscored the hosts 19-16 over the final two periods as Munich-Starkweather was unable to mount a serious challenge to overtake the Bearcats.
Matt Swanson paced North Star with 18 points and was one of four Bearcats in double figures. Jacob Hagler pumped in 16, while Grant Lindahl chipped in with 13 points. Daniel Grande added 12 points for the Bearcats, who ran their record to 11-0 on the season with the win.
Lance Logie was the lone Magic Storm player to reach double figures. He scored 20 points, with 12 of those coming on four 3-pointers.
North Star will seek its 12th win of the season on Tuesday when the Bearcats entertain St. John.
Munich-Starkweather will take on Benson County that same day. That game will be played in Starkweather.
