THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. — A pair of scoring runs, or maybe just one, depending on how it is viewed, was enough to carry Lake Region State College to an impressive 81-50 win over Northland Community College on Tuesday.

Lake Region fought back from a late deficit in the first half to take 40-36 lead at halftime and then added to that by scoring the first 10 points of the second half and never looked back in improving its record to 11-5 on the season.

The Lady Royals outscored the Pioneers 41-14 over the final 20 minutes of play to secure the victory as three players finished in double figures.

Bobbi Grann led the way for the Lady Royals with a season-high 17 points, while Jenna Gillett and Leonie De Jonge added 13 and 12 points, respectively, for Lake Region.

Grann made good on six of 10 shots from the floor, including all three of her 3-point attempts, and got to the foul line twice where she made both of those attempts.

The Lady Royals shot 52 percent (33-63) from the field in the game, including a sparkling 57 percent (16-28) in the first half as they overcame the deficit to take command of the game.

Meanwhile, the Pioneers, who placed just one player in double digits, were held to just 34 percent (19-56) from the floor by a pesky Lake Region defense that forced Northland into 21 turnovers.

Jessica Fontes led the way for the Pioneers with a game-high 19 points.

The Lady Royals return to action Jan. 12 when they have a key Mon-Dak Conference game at Wahpeton against North Dakota State College of Science.
