FORT TOTTEN, North Dakota — Gabe Trevino’s first-place finish provided the margin of victory as Devils Lake came away with the team championship at the Four Winds Invitational on Saturday.

Trevino covered the course in 18:22 and finished 10 seconds ahead of teammate Owen Alfonso, who finished third as the Firebirds scored 36 points to edge North Star for the title. The Bearcats finished with 37 points.

Turtle Mountain’s Royce Poitra prevented the 1-2 finish by the Bearcats by finishing second. His time of 18:31 was well behind Trevino’s winning margin, but enough to edge Alfonso for the No. 2 spot.

Devils Lake was also bolstered by two other runners who finished in the top 10. Jordan Longie ran 19:23 to finish ninth, while Matt Jennings finished right behind in 10th place after recording a 19:24.

Cherilyn Cloud paced the Devils Lake girls with a sixth-place finish on the day. She traversed the course in 17:57 and finished 13 seconds ahead of teammate Rayisha King, who finished in 18:10.
