Maddock downs rival Leeds
MADDOCK, North Dakota — After dropping the first set of its match on Tuesday against rival Maddock by double digits Leeds hung tough against the Bobcats. The Lions even managed to eek out a victory in the fourth set.
But what Leeds did not bank on was the play of Maddock’s Sara Schwanke, who went off for an impressive 20 kills in her team’s triumph in high school volleyball action.
Maddock won 25-15, 27-25, 26-28, 25-20.
Breana Buehler and Chelsey Weigler each added six kills for Maddock in the winning effort.
Schwanke shined in other areas as well for the Bobcats. She had a team-high five service aces and added an impressive 10 assists on the night. Teammate Katelynn Engh paced Maddock in that department with 22 assists.
Meghan Jorgenson was one of three Leeds players to register impressive kills of their own. The six-foot, one-inch Jorgenson slammed down 15 kills to lead the Lions, while Andrea Jorgenson and Jeni Swanson tallied 10 and six kills, respectively. Chance Engstrom pitched in with five kills and also added 10 assists.
Andrea Jorgenson also led Leeds with six service aces, while Kendra Leibfried notched a match-high 26 assists.
Leeds takes on traditional power Langdon Thursday, while Maddock is idle until taking part in the Valley City Invitational on Saturday.
