North Star’s Jacob Hagler (7) unleashes a pass deep downfield as Pat Hanson (61) and Brady Eichelberger (50) apply heavy pressure for Lakota-Adams-Edmore on Friday at Conyers Field in Cando. Hagler and the Bearcats used a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns to improve to 4-0 on the season with a 38-30 win over the Raiders.

CANDO, North Dakota — By putting 38 points on the scoreboard North Star proved it has a pretty potent offense. But, the Bearcats also proved they have a solid defense to go along with the offensive firepower as North Star posted a 38-30 win over Lakota-Adams-Edmore on Friday at Conyers Field in a game that matched two teams ranked in the latest state poll.

After taking a 30-24 lead with just eight minutes left in the game it appeared North Star had alotted plenty of time for the visiting Raiders to rally and pull off the mild upset.

The North Star defense had other ideas and put the clamps on L-A-E. Facing a fourth-and-one from its own 40, L-A-E fumbled the ball and the Bearcats recovered with 6:24 left in the game.

And that was plenty of time for the Bearcats to score again and put the game out of reach.

North Star entered the game ranked No. 4 in the latest poll and after battling to a scoreless tie in the first quarter, scored twice in the second period to take the lead.

Matt Swanson busted loose for a 64-yard scamper and Ethan Sager rambled 39 yards for another score as the Bearcats put 14 points on the board before the Raiders recovered.

Tate Aronson scored on a two-yard run with 1:34 left in the first half to pull L-A-E to within 14-8 at the intermission.

The third period belonged to the Raiders. Aronson scored on   a pass from Eric Haugland and added another scoring run for his third touchdown on the night as L-A-E took a 30-24 lead with 2:37 left in the third period.

It was the final TD of the night for the talented Aronson, who was injured in the fourth quarter and had to be taken off the field in an ambulance. He reportedly suffered a shoulder injury and is not expected to play Friday when L-A-E plays at home against Thompson.

Aronson finished with 112 yards on 33 carries against North Star.

Swanson led the Bearcats with 131 yards on the ground on 10 carries and Sager finished with 67 yards on eight carries of his own.

Hagler finished with 104 yards through the air for North Star, which entertains Towner-Granville-Upham on Friday.
