Rockets’ season comes to close with 54-44 loss to Rolla-Rock Lake

Rolla-Rock Lake found itself in a hole after the first quarter of play, but found the proper ingredients down the stretch as the Bulldogs scored a 54-44 win over New Rockford-Sheyenne to advance to the semifinal round of the Region 4 tournament.

After the Rockets had taken a 19-11 advantage early in the second period, the Bulldogs outscored NR-S 43-25 the rest of the way in securing the win.

Heather Carlson led all scorers with 26 points, including 11 in the final quarter by making nine of 10 free throw attempts down the stretch to keep the Rockets grounded.

Amber Volanti added 11 points for R-RL, which will take an 18-5 record into Tuesday’s semifinal.

Laura Lies and Kelsey Gisi finished with 13 and 12 points, respectively, for New Rockford-Sheyenne.
