Four Winds’ Wambli Dubois goes high to block a shot from Warwick’s Melvin?Langstaff during first-quarter action on Thursday. Wambli and the Indians rallied in the fourth quarter to put away the Warriors 74-58.

FORT TOTTEN, N.D. — After losing to rival Four Winds by 20 points less than one week earlier at the Class B Day at the Devils Lake Sports Center, Warwick appeared ready to make Thursday’s meeting with Four Winds more memorable.

It turned out to be something Warwick coach Kevin Bennefeld might well consider to forget.

Four Winds used a 31-12 fourth-quarter spurt to break away from a 47-46 lead heading into the final period on its way to posting a 74-58 win over the Warriors.

And, it was a total team effort on behalf of the victorious Indians, as no fewer than five different players figured in the scoring in the final period for Four Winds.

“We did a better job of spreading the ball around,” said Four Winds coach Doug Yankton, whose team improved to 4-2 in the district and 8-5 on the year with the win. “We attacked the basket instead of relying so much on the three.

“Our younger guys really stepped up and helped take some of the load off (Chuck) Lovejoy,” Yankton added.

“I am pleased with the way we played for three quarters,” Bennefeld said. “We did not run our sets in the fourtH (quarter) and, like we have a lot of times this season, we tried to do everything with just one shot.”

Lovejoy led the Indians with 23 points, despite sitting out the first quarter. Daryl Three Irons, who scored the first eight points of the game, finished with 21.

Melvin Langstaff led all scorers with 24 points for Warwick.
