Deacons sweep Firebirds

DEVILS LAKE, N.D. — Fargo Shanley left little doubt as to who is the top team in the Eastern Dakota Conference as the Deacons rolled to a sweep of Devils Lake on Saturday at the Sports Center.

Shanley won 25-23, 25-11, 25-16.

“We definately didn’t play our game ... and Shanley went out there and showed everyone why they are the top team in the EDC,” Devils Lake coach Julie Faul said.

Maren Rygh and Kenzie Wade both tallied six kills to pace the Firebirds in that department.Rygh also finished with a team-high three blocks, while Taylor Wade, added two blocks to go along with her two kills against the Deacons.

Steph Mertens posted three kills for Devils Lake, which received 20 assists from Kasi Eisenzimmer.

“If we are going to compete on that level, we need to play our best game everytime we go on the court,” Faul added, “we just didn’t do that Saturday.”
