WEST FARGO — Returning to the Red River Valley for the second time in less than 48 hours did not yield the same sort of results for Devils Lake as the Firebirds were swept by West Fargo on Monday in Eastern Dakota Conference volleyball action.

The Packers won 26-24, 25-21, 25-22.

“The girls played well,” Devils Lake coach Julie Faul said. “They came out really fired up and played hard the entire match. In this conference it comes down to who makes the fewer mistakes ... and we came up a little short (Monday).”

Maren Rygh paced the Firebirds with 12 kills on the night and joined Steph Mertens for team-high honors with three blocks on the night. Mertens also added four kills, while Kenzie Wade had seven kills of her own in the match.
