HAZELTON, N.D. (AP) — The former city auditor in Hazelton has been acquitted of a misdemeanor election crime called official oppression.

The Bismarck Tribune reports that a jury found Roxanne Schrantz not guilty on Friday. She had been accused of keeping a man from running for an open position on the City Commission last year.

Documents from the state crime bureau accused Schrantz of telling a man who filed to run for a two-year unexpired term that the position had been filled and he would have to run for a four-year term, which he did. He didn't win either spot.

City commissioners fired Schrantz at a special meeting in August.
