DICKINSON, N.D. (AP) — A Dickinson man has admitted in court that he ran down his wife with his pickup truck, putting her in the hospital.

The Dickinson Press reports that 29-year-old Tyler Pelton pleaded guilty to an aggravated assault charge.

The plea was not part of a plea agreement with prosecutors, and Pelton still faces a trial beginning Wednesday on other charges including attempted murder in the Dec. 11 incident.

Authorities say Pelton ran over his wife during an argument, causing internal injuries that required surgery. In court on Monday, he said, "I used my truck to hit my wife while she was walking" down the street.

Pelton's attorney, Kevin McCabe, declined comment after the hearing.
