Men from SD, ND face charges for sexual abuse of minor

Bruce B. Kills In Water, Jr., 21, of Little Eagle, S.D., and Robin Iron Shield, 22, of Cannonball, N.D., were sentenced June 13 by United States District Court Judge Daniel L. Hovland for separate counts of sexual abuse of a minor.

Both men were found guilty by a federal jury on March 3, 2011.

Judge Hovland gave Kills In Water, Jr., credit for serving four days in custody and placed Kills In Water, Jr., on supervised release for five years. As part of the supervised release, Kills In Water, Jr., will be placed at a halfway house for one year, to be followed by six months of home confinement. Kills In Water, Jr., was also ordered to pay restitution of $257.22 and a $100 special assessment to the Crime Victim’s Fund. Kills In Water, Jr., must register as a sex offender.

Judge Hovland gave Iron Shield credit for serving seven days in custody and placed Iron Shield on supervised release for five years. As part of the supervised release, Iron Shield will be placed at a halfway house for one year, to be followed by six months of home confinement. Iron Shield was ordered to pay restitution of $219.89 and a $100 special assessment to the Crime Victim’s Fund. Iron Shield must register as a sex offender.

In about April 2010 Iron Shield and a 13-year-old juvenile met on an internet social networking site. Iron Shield and the juvenile continued to communicate thereafter through the network site and text-messaging.

When the juvenile and another 13-year-old juvenile ran away from their home in July 2010, they contacted Iron Shield to pick them up in the area of Parshall, North Dakota. Iron Shield and Kills In Water, Jr., traveled from Fort Yates, N.D., to Parshall, picked up the juveniles and returned with them to an apartment in Fort Yates. Iron Shield and Kills In Water, Jr., each engaged in a sexual act with one of the juveniles.
