Dunseith man pleads guilty to assault for parking lot fight

Ricky Lafountain, 27, of Dunseith, ND, pleaded guilty to a charge of assault resulting in serious bodily injury in United States District Court on June 6, 2011.

On November 5, 2010, Lafountain was outside Betty's Bar in Dunseith when he attacked the victim, knocking the victim to the ground. While on the ground, Lafountain kicked the victim in the face, causing the victim to lose consciousness.

The victim was taken to the hospital and treated for jaw and sinus fractures which required surgery.

The charge of assault resulting in serious bodily injury carries a statutory maximum penalty of 10 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine.

Sentencing for Lafountain has been scheduled for September 12 in Bismarck.

Assistant United States Attorney Brandi Sasse Russell is prosecuting the case.
