Grand Forks apartment fire victims get belongings
GRAND FORKS, N.D. (AP) — Residents of a Grand Forks apartment building who were displaced by a fire were allowed back into the building over the weekend to retrieve belongings.
The Grand Forks Herald reports that 16 people have been temporarily left without a home. The Red Cross is putting some of them up in hotel rooms and others are staying with friends or relatives.
Authorities say the Thursday night fire was caused by unattended cooking. It caused heavy smoke damage in two of the building's three floors and water damage throughout.
The blaze flared up again on Friday morning, fanned by strong winds. Firefighters have been monitoring the scene since.
