Judge denies bail for Cooperstown murder suspect
JAMESTOWN, N.D. (AP) — A judge has denied bail for a man accused of killing a North Dakota State University researcher.
Authorities say they found the head of 54-year-old Kurt Johnson last week in the home of 30-year-old Daniel Wacht in Cooperstown, where both men lived. Court documents say Johnson was killed by a gunshot to the head before his head was severed.
His body was not immediately found. Griggs County Sheriff Robert Hook tells KVLY-TV that Wacht allegedly is not cooperating with authorities.
Wacht is being held in a Jamestown jail on a murder charge and also on a probation violation warrant out of California.
Wacht appeared in court Monday without an attorney. He is due back in court on Jan. 25.
