Dunseith man gets one year, 9 months for breaking woman’s jaw

Alvin G. Decoteau, 29, of Dunseith, ND, was sentenced to one year and nine months in prison for breaking a woman's jaw during a dispute in 2009.

Decoteau was sentenced on Jan. 4, 2011 before U.S. District Court Judge Daniel L. Hovland on a charge of assault resulting in serious bodily injury.

Decoteau will have three years of supervised release following his incarceration. He was also ordered to pay $100 special assessment to the Crime Victim's Fund and restitution of $4,244.48.

On March 5, 2009,  Decoteau and a female companion were at the Triple Ace Bar in Dunseith. Around midnight the two began to argue and when the woman left the bar,  Decoteau chased her and hit her in the face, breaking the woman's jaw, which had to be wired shut.
