City workers overlay 2nd Ave at 7th St. earlier this month. Most of the overlay work is finished for this season, though College Dr. will close intermittently as the railroad bridge at the west underpass is completed. Other improvements to frontage roads near Hwy. 2, Hwy. 20 and Hwy. 19 are scheduled for later this year.

The closure of College Dr. near the work at the west underpass, a massive undertaking to replace the railroad bridge that will extend into 2018, has caused some traffic issues for drivers in the region.

The major thoroughfare through the city should reopen Thursday night, according to city engineer Mike Grafsgaard.

“College Dr. should reopen Thursday evening, unless the contractor encounters issues,” Grafsgaard said.

However, Grafsgaard also reported that College Dr. will close again from Monday morning through Wednesday next week.

He also provided an update about overlay work around the city.

“With the west underpass project we will be overlaying 6th St. NE and 6th Ave. NE (from the north side of east underpass on 6th Avenue NE to 6th Street NE then west on 6th Street NE to College Drive).  This work is scheduled for July,” Grafsgaard said.

Other overlay work around town is now completed per the city’s contract for this year.

Frontage roads near Hwy. 2 and Hwy. 20 will see improvements also, as will Hwy. 19 near Razor’s Edge and Cenex West.
