After initially being told the Devils Lake rodeo is no longer being held, Superintendent of Parks and Recreation Terry Wallace informed the Park Board at its meeting Tuesday the rodeo is back on. However, details are still slim at the moment.

After the Lake Region Rodeo Association decided not to do the rodeo this year, it was without a host. Wallace told the board at a previous meeting the rodeo would be postponed until someone new stepped up to run it.

Recently, Wallace received a phone call saying the rodeo will be back on. However, the Parks and Recreation office is in the beginning stages of finding out more details.

“We don’t know the details as to what group is actually running it for sure,” Wallace said. “I did return a call to them and told them they need to come meet with us and go over the specifics and make sure we have the dates and we can agree on a price. The other group we have had in the past, we had the same group, so we knew exactly what they were going to do and exactly what we were going to do.”

The rodeo is usually held in the last week of September at the Burdick Arena as a three-day event.

From what Wallace was told, it’s an entirely new group that is not local wanting to run the rodeo. The group and park board will need to figure out pricing and who will fulfill what roles before details on the rodeo’s dates are announced.

Also during Tuesday’s meeting, the board discussed the Lakewood Beach fishing pier project. All the funding is lined up, it is just a matter of getting the fishing pier ordered. The board agreed they would like to get it installed as early as possible.

Wallace also said they will be doing some work on the beach along with the project.
