232 citations issued for underage drinking in April and May
From April 1 through May 17, law enforcement agencies across the state deployed extra patrols to prevent underage drinking. A total of 232 citations were attributed to the added patrols, including 54 counts of minor in consumption and 29 counts of minor in possession. Four driving under the influence (DUI) arrests, 22 other alcohol-related citations, 14 drug-related citations, and four open container citations were also doled out.
Traffic stops by the added patrols also resulted in two felony arrests, six warrants served, 33 speeding tickets and four seat belt citations.
Funding for additional traffic safety enforcement is provided by federal grant money distributed through the North Dakota Department of Transportation. High-visibility enforcement for traffic safety is one element of a collaborative effort to eliminate motor vehicle deaths in North Dakota.
