U.S. Justice Department officials arrive at the Lake Region Law Enforcement Center at approximately 8:30 a.m. Thursday morning. The two-day inspection should provide feedback to help address issues with the facility.

DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (AP) — Officials with a U.S. Justice Department division are scheduled to conduct a review of the regional jail in Devils Lake this week.

Lake Region Law Enforcement Center Director Tom Rime tells KZZY radio that the review is to take two days and should give the center's board some useful feedback.

The jail has had a slew of problems in recent years including guard misconduct, staffing issues and inmate escapes.

Rime says the visit by the National Institute of Corrections officials was scheduled at his request nearly a year ago and isn't in response to two recent escapes.

He says the review should "provide a roadmap moving forward for this facility."
