Rick and Kim Lysne’s wedding last July surrounded by their children and grandchildren.

It’s been a difficult few months for Rick and Kim Lysne. In 2015 he was diagnosed with interstitial lung disease. His illness affects his ability to breathe and to get enough oxygen into his bloodstream. That has resulted in his inability to work since November.

The community of Devils Lake and the surrounding Lake Region is stepping up to help this family in need by hosting a benefit at Ye Olde Tavern/Lotta’s Bar - located on the corner of 4th Street and 4th Avenue - on Friday, Feb. 26 beginning at 5 p.m.

A spaghetti dinner with all the trimmings will be served, plus a silent auction, live auction and 50/50 drawing. All the money raised at this benefit will go to help the Lysne family with medical and travel expenses that insurance doesn’t touch.

A silent auction that ends at 7 p.m. and the live auction, beginning at 7:30 p.m. are filled with items, like numerous items of sports memorabilia, donated by local individuals and participating businesses.

Volunteer auctioneers and assistants will keep the bidding lively in the live auction as friends and family rally to help another member of the community in need.

A benefit account in Lysne’s name has been established at Western State Bank, so those who wish to make charitable contributions before the event or who live at a distance are able to do so.
