Local couple helps community with taxes

Louise Oleson Journal Managing Editor
Trudy and Gary Ertmann

Trudy and Gary Ertmann find themselves working together once more during tax season as AARP Tax Aides.

This local couple schedule appointments three days a week - Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. to help individuals file their tax returns electronically.

They’re set up in the fellowship rooms of their church - Christ Free Lutheran Church located at 109 Shamrock Lane in Devils Lake and they still have some appointments available.

Both the Ertmanns have extensive training in doing this work and though Gary has only been doing it for two years and Trudy has been doing it for over 20 years, because of their recent training they are both certified at advanced levels.

Though they have been trained through AARP and the program is geared more for those 50 years of age and over, Trudy says they will do anyone’s taxes for them, all except the more complicated returns.

There is no charge for their services and both Trudy and Gary are volunteers, receiving no pay for their services. They do it because they enjoy working with and helping people.

If you would like to sign up for an appointment they are scheduling them into the second week of March, already, but they go until the very end of tax filing season, April 15.

Everything is done electronically but you get a paper copy for your files.

Call 662-8521 and set up an appointment. Don’t forget to ask what you need to bring with you to this appointment.
