Probation revoked for St. Michael man
Ronald George McKay, 40, of St Michael, was brought before the Ramsey County District Court for a probation revocation hearing.
According to a report from the office of Lonnie Olson, Ramsey County States Attorney, on July 21, 2015, McKay was placed on supervised probation for a Theft of Property, a class C felony.
McKay was caught shoplifting from a local business on Sept. 28, 2014. He had filled a cart and went through the self checkouts without paying for over $2,000 in merchandise. When confronted by loss prevention staff after leaving the store, he ran off without being caught, and a warrant for his arrest was issued on Oct. 2, 2014.
He was arrested in Cass County on Nov. 6, 2014, for the C felony charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance (Lorazepam) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
Cass County District Court set bond at $300 cash, a promise to appear, and an order for him to appear for court was given to McKay for a preliminary hearing in Fargo on Dec. 10, 2014.
McKay was transferred to Devils Lake on or about Nov. 26, 2014. He bonded out of jail on Nov. 27 on a $1,000 surety bond, with a court date of Jan. 29, 2015. McKay failed to appear for court in Cass County on Dec. 10 or in Ramsey County on Jan. 29, 2015 and another warrant was issued.
He was arrested again on June 10, 2015. McKay eventually entered a guilty plea to the Theft charge on July 21 and was sentenced to one year in the DOCR, with credit for 45 days served, and the remaining time was suspended for two years with supervised probation. McKay was transferred to Cass County, where he entered guilty pleas on July 24 and was ordered to serve one year in the DOCR, credit for 71 days served, and the remaining time was suspended for one year, with supervised probation.
He was ordered to appear at the Department of Parole and Probation to meet with a probation officer. He did not appear for the first appointment with probation officer, and another warrant was issued. He was arrested on the Cass County warrant on Oct. 1 and was eventually re-sentenced on Oct. 19 to 315 days in the Cass County jail.
He was transferred to Devils Lake on Jan. 19, 2016.
A probation revocation hearing was held on Feb. 4 on the Ramsey County charge. After hearing arguments from counsel, Judge Donovan Foughty resentenced McKay to two years in the Department of Corrections.
