Two bodies found in submerged vehicle

Numerous state and local law enforcement officials were on the scene off of Highway 20 South Wednesday evening. Earlier in the morning, emergency responders recovered a submerged vehicle in approximately 15 feet of water. Two male bodies were found in the SUV. The incident is still under investigation.

A single vehicle accident in Ramsey County led to the death of two men, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol. Emergency officials recovered a submerged vehicle located in Devils Lake near Highway 20 at its junction with Highway 57 Wednesday morning, a press release noted.

The 2008 Ford SUV was submerged in approximately 15 feet of water. Inside the vehicle, two male bodies were discovered. The victims were a 20-year-old from Saint Michael and a 19-year-old from Devils Lake. Neither were wearing their seatbelts.

Based on damage to the vehicle and evidence at the site, the incident is being investigated as a single vehicle accident that occurred before Wednesday.

The case is still under investigation of local law enforcement. Pending family notification, names of the victims will be identified Thursday evening.
