DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (AP) — Devils Lake officials are reviewing options for repaying nearly $112,000 that state government mistakenly deposited in the city's lodging tax account over the past three years.

A computer error led to the mistake, said Myles Vosberg, director of the state Tax Department's tax administration division. Lodging tax receipts collected by a facility in another city had incorrectly been credited to Devils Lake since 2011.

Tax revenue goes first to the state and then is disbursed back to cities.

"We were doing some system changes and upgrades, and that's how we identified it," Vosberg told KZZY radio. "We've also done some testing and run some queries and so on to verify that we don't have any other errors like that out there, and we didn't find any."

The state will be flexible in working out a repayment plan for the city, Vosberg said.
