School Board meets new Special Ed director

President Steve Halldorson calls the Devils Lake School Board to order at Monday’s regular meeting.

Bette Nelson, the new director of the Lake Region Special Education gave a presentation about her department’s work  to the Devils Lake School Board.

Following her narrative the board voted to approve the operations and policy manuals for the Harmony House and New Outlooks.

Superintendent Scott Privratsky welcomed Nelson to the district and praised her credentials and experience.

He also informed the board of an event at 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 21 to celebrate Sweetwater’s Blue Ribbon School award and the “Meet the Candidate” forum set for Thursday, Oct. 16 sponsored by AAUW. Veronica Nicla volunteered to represent the board at that event and to give a presentation on the  issues concerning education before the legislature this session.

Privratsky also touched on the school calendar alternatives, the elementary school restructuring plan and the resignation of George Zenk before launching into a detailed review of the School Board Policy Manual.
