Mary Lynn Schindele, 60, of Dubuque, IA, formerly of Tolna, ND, passed away Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at her home in Dubuque.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 21 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Tolna, N.D.  Visitation will be one hour prior to services in the church.  Interment will be in the Tolna Cemetery.

Mary was born August 25, 1952 to Duane Schindele and Ruth (Eisner) Bechard.  She was raised on the family farm NE of Tolna, and graduated from Tolna High School. She attended Aaker’s Business College in Grand Forks, N.D.  After graduating from Business College she worked for Data Control in Minneapolis, Minn.  Mary always had a dream of becoming an Airline Flight Attendant.  She took a position working with the Stanley Mickelson Missile Complex of Nekoma, N.D. stationed at Langdon, N.D. for 11 years.  This led to another position with Pan Am and Continental Airlines as well as working on NASA projects and testing engines for missiles while living in Picayune, MS.  She was station manager of three airlines in the U.S. Army Kwajalein Atoll located in the Republic of the Marshall Islands.  She was often referred to as “Air-Mic-Mary” by friends and colleagues as well.  Mary loved the islands, sailing, boating, and sitting on the beach, doing barbeques and watching the sunsets when airlines weren’t coming in.  Mary was a very happy, fun loving person, giving “little happies” to all of her family and friends.  She was thought of as having a heart as big as Texas.  Mary was sponsoring two children from Uganda whom she dearly loved.  They were “her children.”

Mary is survived by her parents Duane Schindele of Tolna, ND and Ruth Bechard of Devils Lake, ND; three sisters, Maureen (C. Gary) Kopp of Turtle Lake, ND, Angela (Stacy) Twete of Tolna, and Janelle Schindele of Dubuque; two brothers, Michael Schindele of Tolna and Brian (Jodie) Schindele of Palmer, AK; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mary was preceded in death by her grandparents Peter and Elsie Schindele and William and Julia Eisner; two uncles Alfred and Paul Eisner.

In closing remember this: Even before we are created we are born to know God.

Arrangements are with the Aaker Funeral Home of Lakota.
