Lanelle Kay (Langton) Cummings, 54, of San Antonio, Tex.,  was tragically taken by a brain tumor in the evening of August 2, 2013 after a 15-month battle of triumphs and setbacks, all the while surrounded and supported by her family and dear friends.

Lanelle was born July 9, 1959 in Devils Lake, N.D. She attended grade school and high school in Crary, N.D., and graduated in 1977. She attended Valley City State University, and graduated in 1981 with a BS in Music Education. She taught high school music for one year at Leeds High School and married John Cummings that same year in September of 1982.

Lanelle also organized and taught Kindermusik to preschoolers and their mothers-first in Pierre, S.D., and then in San Antonio, Tex.. She taught music at several San Antonio elementary schools, a preschool Montessori school, and a live, interactive, high school music history course. Lanelle participated in bible study for “Moms in Touch”, a prayer group for mothers of college students. She was an enthusiast of hot yoga and practiced for several years.

Second only to her love for children was Lanelle’s love for music. It was clear to all who knew her that these were true, God-given gifts and passions.

She is survived by her loving husband, John C. Cummings; her daughters, Dana Cummings and Betsy Cummings; her son, Jackson Cummings;  mother, Nelda Langton;  brothers, Steve Langton (Sally), Scott Langton (Dessarae), Brian Langton, and Merle Langton; sister, Stacy Saurey (Tom); and many extended family members and friends who will cherish her memory and miss her dearly.

Lanelle was preceded in death by her father, Mr. Leo L. Langton, and her brother, Trent Langton.
