DEVILS LAKE, N.D. — Devils Lake Police say an attempted in-person scam targeted several local car dealers last week.

Police say a man went to the dealerships posing as a maintenance man for their brake machines. Police say most of the dealerships gave the man access to the machine, and a few minutes late, he would present a bill for $2,500 and ask for immediate payment.

Police also say when dealership officials asked for identification and a merchant license from the man, he left the business.

The suspect is a white male in his mid-30s with numerous tatoos on his arms. He drives a black Ford pick-up with out-of-state plates.
