FARGO, N.D. (AP) — The mayor of Oxbow says he is willing to explore the idea of building a dike around the town to save it from being flooded by a proposed Red River diversion project to protect the Fargo-Moorhead area. But Jim Nyhof has conditions.

Nyhof says the town's 18-hole golf course would have to be saved, with any course changes done with the consultation of the course designer. He also wants to save homes, even if some have to be moved.

Nyhof says he wants officials to maintain Oxbow "as it exists."

The Army Corps of Engineers is looking at the possibility of building a levee around Oxbow, Hickson and a rural subdivision to save homes that otherwise would be demolished to make room for a temporary water storage area.
