At approximately 5:17 p.m. on Oct. 22,  the North Dakota Highway Patrol received a report of a vehicle traveling westbound in the eastbound lane of U.S. Hwy 2 near Petersburg.  Shortly thereafter, a Highway Patrol Trooper encountered the vehicle traveling in the correct lane – westbound in the westbound lane – but at a high rate of speed, in excess of the posted speed limit.

The trooper attempted to initiate a traffic stop, at which time the driver fled from law enforcement.  The pursuit continued westbound to a location just east of Devils Lake along U.S. 2, where the Devils Lake Police Department successfully deployed a tire flattening device, disabling the suspect vehicle, at approximately 5:46 p.m.

The suspect, Andrew Wilkie, 64, of Niagara, ND, was taken into custody without further incident.   The Nelson County Sheriff’s Department, Ramsey County Sheriff’s Department, and Devils Lake Police Department all assisted the ND Highway Patrol in taking the suspect into custody.

Wilkie is charged with DUI, Fleeing from Law Enforcement, and Open Container of Alcoholic Beverage in a Motor Vehicle.
