Sanford Health might expand to Ghana

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — Sanford Health officials are talking with billionaire Bill Gates about building clinics in Ghana.

Sanford CEO Kelby Krabbenhoft recently led a team of five officials to Seattle to meet with the Microsoft founder. A separate team of three officials went to Ghana.

The Argus Leader reports that a plan by Gates and his foundation to improve vaccination rates in Third World countries runs parallel to Sanford's wish to expand to several countries. Sioux Falls philanthropist and Sanford Health namesake T. Denny Sanford also is friends with Gates.

The Dakotas-based Sanford Health already has children's clinic in Belize and Ireland, as well as some in states outside the Midwest. It said earlier this year it plans more than 20 more such clinics in the U.S. and abroad over the next decade.
